Forest school

At Lift Lea Forest School, we wholeheartedly embrace the transformative power of outdoor learning and the Forest School ethos, where nature becomes both the classroom and the teacher.

Our Forest School ethos

Our provision offers children rich, immersive experiences that foster resilience, creativity, and independence through child-led play and exploration.

We provide a range of open-ended natural resources that spark imagination and allow children to direct their own learning journeys—whether that’s turning sticks into story props, using clay to sculpt forest creatures, or collecting leaves for art and science investigations. Children take an active role in caring for their environment, developing a deep-rooted respect for nature by participating in sustainable practices such as composting, habitat care, and seasonal planting. Under the guidance of our trained Forest School practitioners, children safely engage in fire lighting and tool work, which builds confidence, responsibility, and practical life skills.

Bushcraft activities such as wicker weaving, shelter construction, and mud kitchen play not only enhance fine motor development but also promote teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking. Through den building and nature-based adventures, children explore key curriculum links across science (life cycles, habitats, weather), history (primitive living, early human skills), and art (natural sculpture, earth pigments), making learning meaningful and memorable.

At Lift Lea Forest, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow in nature, to lead their learning, and to build a lifelong connection with the world around them.
