Being named among the top 10 primaries in England is a remarkable achievement for any school, regardless of location and status But when you consider Birmingham's Lea Forest is close to some of the poorest streets and communities in the entire country, it takes things to a whole new level. To say leaders are doing something right is an understatement. It's no surprise that Lea Forest battles high demand, with local parents desperate to secure their children a place here. The Kitts Green primary, run by Lift Schools, was recently named as the 10th best in England by the Sunday Times out of around 20,000 schools, and the Midlands primary of the year. That would be impressive in any part of the country but inner-city Birmingham schools face complex challenges and immediately have the odds stacked against them because of the city's struggles with poverty and deprivation.
