We currently offer an after school 11+ preparation provision for children in Year 5 and 6. In addition some parents may wish to provide support with additional independent tutors, however the testing process has undergone changes in recent years and the style of test has been adapted. Extra tutoring is not always needed, as teaching and learning in Year 5 and 6 are set at high levels.
There is no longer a distinct verbal reasoning test and the selective tests are geared towards achievement at above average levels in the National Curriculum.
You will be able to purchase relevant workbooks at most bookshops and via the Consortium of Selective Schools website.
We do have children each year who take the 11+ tests and achieve places at Grammar Schools across the West Midlands Region. We work closely with the King Edwards VI Foundation which has several grammar schools located across the West Midlands.
If you would like your child to go to a grammar school in Birmingham, they will need to sit an entry test. There is one entry test for all of Birmingham's grammar schools and for grammar schools outside Birmingham that are part of the West Midlands Grammar Schools group.
If you would like your child to be considered for a place at any of the selective grammar schools in Birmingham, Shropshire, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Warwickshire, they must sit the entrance test at a test centre.
